Ending a 10-Year Pedicure Drought

Ending a 10-Year Pedicure Drought

I hadn’t had a pedicure in over ten years — the last one was for my brother’s wedding. A full decade. At that point, it was less about forgetting and more about actively avoiding it, like if I ignored it long enough it might resolve itself. With a bit of encouragement from Mary-Anne, I bit the bullet and finally booked in.

We’ve recently had Kim join us as a nail tech three to four days a week, which makes fitting this kind of self-maintenance in far easier for the girls who work here. Having it available on site removes most of the friction (and for me, the procrastination and creative excuses).

The appointment itself felt more like a quiet wellbeing reset than a standard nail session. Kim was easy to talk to, took her time, and created a calm, no-pressure space that didn’t feel rushed or transactional. It was relaxed, comfortable, and genuinely pleasant — which is not something I expected to say about a pedicure I’d been dodging for ten years.

I also hadn’t had my nails done in over three years. Shellac and I had a brief but toxic relationship, so this time I opted for BIAB, which is much kinder to nail health. The difference was immediate — my nails feel strong again, finished in a sparkly navy shade that somehow feels understated and indulgent at the same time.

Between finally ending a ten-year pedicure drought, trying BIAB, and doing it all in an easy, low-key setting, it was a genuinely positive experience. I won’t be leaving it another decade...

“I love this so much - honestly, it made me want to book a pedicure immediately. Ten years is real commitment to avoidance. I used to get my nails done all the time until COVID forced a break, and that's when I realised how damaged they actually were. Fortunately they recovered, but by then I had gotten far too used to avoiding the whole boring sitting still for an hour with no phone or magazine to help pass the time. However after seeing how awesome your nails look and reading this I am seriously reconsidering. And if BIAB is healthier for nails? Even better.......I fear I'm about to be booked in

“This is a nice reminder that a little self care can go a long way! It's easy to put these things off, but taking the time to treat yourself is a nice little reset.
Having it right there in the locker room at work makes it even better!”

“Thanks for the blog, Lynn. Have you noticed that the pedicure helps you start the day well as soon as you see your blue toes?”
